Fayemi to deliver Atta Mills lecture in Ghana

The immediate past Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, will be the speaker at the 2015 edition of President John Atta Mills memorial lecture in Accra, the Ghana capital, on July 21.
The lecture is organised annually to commemorate the death of the late President of the Republic of Ghana, John Atta Mills, who died on July 24, 2012. This year’s lecture coincides with the 71st posthumous birthday of Mills, who was born on July 21, 1944.
A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to Fayemi, Olayinka Oyebode, on Sunday, said that the former governor would speak on the topic entitled: “Intellectuals in Politics and Governance in Africa: The Legacies of John Atta Mills.”
According to a statement by the Chief of Staff to President John Mahama of Ghana, Julius Debrah, Fayemi was selected based on “his impressive credentials as an academic and a journalist.”
The statement read, “Dr. Kayode Fayemi’s impressive credentials as an academic, a journalist and a researcher on peace and security in Africa make him a worthy choice for the occasion. His presence and participation in this national event will further enhance the historical bonds of friendship and solidarity between Ghana and Nigeria.”
President Mills, who was elected on the platform of the National Democratic Congress, was the President of Ghana between 2009 and 2012.
Meanwhile, a former Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Femi Bamisile, has expressed confidence that the party will reclaim Ekiti from the Peoples Democratic Party in 2018.
Bamisile, who is a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, described the loss of the state to Governor Ayodele Fayose in the 2014 governorship election as a temporary setback
